Charlottetown Fire Department Stands Tall for Cancer

The Charlottetown Fire Department is celebrating the arrival of their newest truck and are partnering with the Canadian Cancer Society to help raise funds for cancer. The Fire Department's newest piece of equipment, a 2013 Pierce Arial Platform, will be on display in the Sobey's parking lot on Allen Street on Friday, August 23 and Saturday, August 24.

Firefighters will rise high for cancer and have committed to standing in the platform for 30 hours straight. An opening ceremonies will take place on Friday, August 23 at 12 noon. A variety of events will be held on Friday and Saturday to help raise funds for cancer. We invite other Fire Departments to join us during this weekend to enter in the Fire Truck Pull and on Saturday, August 24 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for the Emergency Vehicle Show and Shine. Enter a team to participate in the fire truck pull or enjoy watching the firefighter's races.

Cashiers at Sobey's will also be taking up a "boot collection" where donations can be placed in firefighter boots. Other local businesses have also shown support and will help raise funds such as the staff at Lobster on the Wharf and The PEI Busker Festival taking place at Peake's Quay from August 30 to September 1. A pink fire truck will also be onsite during the events and individuals are encouraged to sign the name of a loved one who lost their battle to cancer or someone who is currently undergoing treatment.
