Charlottetown City Council is comprised of a Mayor and ten councillors representing 10 wards within the City. The Mayor is elected at large and Councillors are elected by ward with elections held every four years. The Mayor appoints Standing Committees for members of Council.

As per the Charlottetown Area Municipalities Act Section 19. (1), the Mayor may appoint from among members of City Council, any standing committees consisting of such number of persons the Mayor considers appropriate for (a) the better transaction of the business before Council: and (b) the discharge of any duty within the scope of the committee's power.

Below are short biographies of the Mayor and members of City Council, updated as of the official Swearing-In Ceremony on November 17, 2014.

First elected to Charlottetown City Council in November of 1987, Mayor Clifford Lee has served consecutive terms to date. He was appointed Deputy Mayor in 2000. He was elected as the 45th Mayor of Charlottetown in November of 2003 and re-elected as Mayor in the 2006, 2010 and 2014 municipal elections.

During his tenure as an elected municipal official, Mayor Lee has been chair of all committees of City Council. As Mayor of Charlottetown, His Worship is also a member of the Atlantic Caucus for the Federation of Canadian Municipalities and the Atlantic Mayors Congress.

A graduate of Colonel Gray High School in Charlottetown (Class of 1979), Mayor Lee has a long-established professional career in public service, working for the provincial government in a variety of professional capacities. His career began at the Prince Edward Island Liquor Control Commission (1979 - 1992) immediately following graduation. He has since held the positions of Investigation and Auditing Services Supervisor with the Department of Health and Social Services (1992 - 2003) and Financial Officer with the Provincial Treasury (2003 - 2008). In 2008, Mayor Lee was seconded to Holland College to take on the position of Safety and Sustainability Officer.

Mayor Lee's community involvement extends beyond his role as a municipal official. He has served as Co-ordinator and Manager of the Charlottetown Minor Hockey Association. He has also served as an Assistant Coach for the Charlottetown Minor Baseball and Minor Hockey Associations. In his spare time, he enjoys reading, golfing, supporting minor league sports, hockey and public service.

Mayor Clifford Lee remains a life-long resident of the City of Charlottetown, the Birthplace of Confederation, with his wife Anne Marie and their son Jamie.

Councillor Rice was first elected in 1981. He served as the chairperson of the Public Works committee until 1989 when he took over as chairperson of the Charlottetown Water Commission. Councillor Rice served at the commission until 1995.

In 2010, Councillor Rice was re-elected to Council for Ward 1. He was re-elected again in the 2014 municipal election.

Councillor Rice has lived his entire life in Ward 1. For the past 25 years, he has worked as a sales associate and broker with the Real Estate Association of PEI. He has also served on Canada Council and was one of the original founders of the PEI Council of the Arts.

Councillor Rice has two children. His son Bobby, daughter-in-law Jody, and grandson Griffin live in Charlottetown. His daughter Ellen lives in Calgary.

Councillor Terry MacLeod is originally from Charlottetown and has been a resident of Parkdale since 1972.

He is the founding member of the Parkdale and Area Community Fun Group and has been a member of the Parkdale Sherwood Lions Club for more than 15 years. He has also held a variety of roles with the Sherwood Parkdale Minor Hockey Association and the Sherwood Parkdale Minor Baseball Association. Among other community and volunteer oriented roles, Councillor MacLeod has umpired for many years in the PEI Baseball Umpires Association. He is employed with the Culinary Institute of Canada and has been for more than 10 years.

He and his wife, Joanne, have two sons, Robbie and Ryan, as well as one grandson, Declan. Councillor MacLeod and his wife live on Beasley Avenue.

Councillor Mike Duffy first served on City Council from 1993-2000. He chaired the Parks and Recreation committee and also served on the planning board, heritage review board, Police Services committee and with human resources.

Councillor Duffy was the business manager and assistant administrator at the Hillsborough Hospital. He also served as the senior policy analyst at the Department of Veterans Affairs. He retired from the Department of Veterans Affairs and currently lives on Highfield Avenue with his wife Phyllis. He and Phyllis have two daughters, Alana and Lori.

Councillor Mitchell Tweel was born and raised in Charlottetown and works in the family businesses.

He was first elected to Charlottetown City Council in October 1994 and was re-elected in the subsequent elections, including the recent 2014 municipal election.

Councillor Tweel earned his Bachelor of Arts degree and diploma in Public Administration from the University of Prince Edward Island and took the law, politics, and jurisprudence program at St. Mary's University.

Councillor Tweel's public and community service includes being chairperson, president and member of various organizations as well as a volunteer in fundraising initiatives. Councillor Tweel's leisure time is spent enjoying weight training, football and music.

Councillor Kevin Ramsay has been a resident of Maplewood Crescent in Charlottetown for the past 38 years.

He has been both coach and administrator for a number of minor sports organizations for decades. In 2013, he received a citizen's award from Mayor Clifford Lee for his community

service over the past 32 years, as well as his involvement in many major sporting events hosted in Charlottetown.

Councillor Ramsay and his wife, Cheryl, have three children, Stephen, Ryan and Michelle. They also have three granddaughters, Kate, Callie, and Clair.

Councillor Ramsay has been an employee of T3 Transit since 2006.

Councillor Bob Doiron is a lifelong resident of the Sherwood neighbourhood. He currently lives on Cedar Avenue with his wife, Lori. The two have been fortunate to have been able to raise their three children, Brandy, Taylor and Logan within the Sherwood community.

Having been raised in Ward 6, Councillor Doiron attended Sherwood Elementary School, Stonepark Intermediate School and Colonel Grey High School. Councillor Doiron attended the University of Prince Edward Island and is a graduate of Holland College, where he obtained a diploma from the Atlantic Police Academy. He has been a member of the UPEI Security Police Department since 1987.

Councillor Doiron is active within the community through coaching and managing a variety of minor soccer and hockey teams throughout the years. He is a former member of the Sherwood Parkdale Metros and Charlottetown Islanders Hockey Clubs, having won an Allen Cup in 1991 with the Islanders.

In his spare time, Councillor Doiron enjoys spending quality time with his wife and family, taking in local sporting events and riding motorcycles.

Councillor Greg Rivard has been employed with the Workers Compensation Board as an assessment auditor for more than 20 years.

Councillor Rivard was a Big Brother in the Big Brothers Big Sisters of PEI program. He also coached hockey in the Sherwood association at various levels and age groups.

Councillor Rivard currently serves as head coach of the Western Red Wings in the Island Junior Hockey League and is involved with the Charlottetown Ringette Association as a coach for the under - 8 and under - 10 programs.

He has served on the City's planning board as a resident member for the last three years. He has lived in Ward 7 since 2006 and has two children, Ava and Myah.

Councillor Jason Coady and his wife, Kim, live in Charlottetown with their daughter, Marley. A graduate of UPEI, Jason has a degree in Business Administration and a Diploma in Public Administration. Raised in Ward 8, Jason attended Sherwood School, Stonepark Intermediate, and Charlottetown Rural High School.

Councillor Coady has worked in a variety of areas, including management, commercial and personal finance, and communications. First elected to council in 2010, Councillor Coady has previously served on committees responsible for planning, heritage, and public utilities. He has also acted as chairperson of the civic board for persons with disabilities.

A former member of the Charlottetown Abbies and the Sherwood Falcons, Councillor Coady has coached minor hockey in Sherwood and, in his spare time, enjoys watching local sporting events.

Councillor Melissa Hilton was born and raised in Charlottetown where she lives with her husband Rob Gallant and two daughters, Nicole and Robyn.

Councillor Hilton was first elected in October 2005 and re-elected in subsequent elections, including the recent 2014 municipal election. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in psychology from the University of Prince Edward Island in 1990.

Councillor Hilton was an active board member with the Four Neighborhood Community Health Centre and the Island Fitness Council. In 2006, she was chairperson of the Fire and Emergency Services Committee. Since then, she has served as chairperson of the Parks and Recreation and Leisure Activities Committee, and as a member of the Planning and Heritage Committee and Administrative Services Committee.

Councillor Hilton has been actively involved as manager of the Sherwood Parkdale Rural Minor Hockey Association for numerous hockey teams. She is employed in her family-operated business located in Charlottetown. In her spare time, she enjoys swimming, playing squash and watching her daughters in their sporting activities.

Councillor Bernard is a resident of East Royalty where he has lived for the past 25 years with his wife Sandy and their 3 children, Matthew, Jarrett and Kayla.

He was raised in Sherwood and attended Sherwood Elementary, Stonepark Junior High, Charlottetown Rural High School and Holland College. He currently works with the provincial government in the division of Sport, Recreation and Healthy Living.

Councillor Bernard was first elected to City Council in November of 2000. He was re-elected in 2003, 2006, acclaimed in 2010 and re-elected in 2014 to a fifth term. He has chaired many committees with his involvement with the City including as chairperson of the Public Works, Street Lighting and Transit committee, vice-chair of the Administrative Services Committee and member of the Economic Development committee. Councillor Bernard also chairs the City's Youth Advisory Committee.

Throughout his lifetime, Councillor Bernard has been involved in numerous roles for a variety of organizations such president of Charlottetown Minor Hockey and coach or manager of Hockey and Soccer teams over the years. He also was instrumental in creating and maintaining two youth programs in his neighbourhood of Ward 10. He also is an active member in his church.

In his leisure time, Councillor Bernard likes to play hockey, golf, go fishing, camping, woodworking and spend quality time with his family.
