2015-01-20 - Charlottetown Seeks Public Input on 2015 Budget

The City of Charlottetown is looking for input from its citizens on the 2015 budget.

The Finance, Audit and Tendering committee has been tasked with developing and maintaining a citizen engagement process for managing the City's revenue and expenses. As a first step in this new approach, the City is inviting electronic and written submissions or comments regarding how money should be spent on services and programs in Charlottetown in 2015.

"In an effort to be more transparent and engaging with our community, we are opening the door to all citizens to let us know what direction they think our spending should take and how we should use our sources of revenue," said Charlottetown Mayor Clifford Lee. "We have been fortunate that growth and development have allowed us to continue to improve the services we offer. That said, we know there is always room for more improvements so this is an opportunity for our citizens to let us know how they would like to see their tax dollars spent."

The Finance, Audit and Tendering committee was formed in December 2014 and the City's fiscal year is January to December, so there is limited time available to weigh in on the 2015 budget. To ensure your feedback is considered, all comments must be submitted by 12 p.m. (noon) on Friday, January 30, 2015.

"Ideally, we would have liked to give residents more time but this is a first for us and it is a process we are committed to building over the next few years," said Councillor Melissa Hilton, Chair of the Finance, Audit and Tendering committee. "We are pleased to be able to offer this opportunity for public engagement and we want our residents to know that they can make a difference and have an impact on the City of Charlottetown budget."

Feedback can be emailed to budgets@charlottetown.ca. Written submissions must be sent to the attention of:
The Finance Department - City of Charlottetown
P.O. Box 98, 199 Queen Street,
Charlottetown, PE C1A 7K2

Feedback can also be drop off at the main floor reception desk at City Hall, 199 Queen Street, with the envelope clearly marked to the attention of the Finance Department.
