2015-02-03 - Snow Removal and Parking Advisory

The City of Charlottetown Public Works Department wishes to advise the public  that parking in the downtown core will be limited tomorrow (Wednesday, February 4) due to the amount of snow that has recently accumulated.

Snow clearing efforts is being concentrated in the school zones and crews aren't anticipating being downtown to clear parking in time for the morning traffic.

"We've had a number of snow events in a row and with this last one, the snow accumulation was only 14 centimetres less than the record breaking 'White Juan' snow storm of 2004," said Councillor Terry Bernard, chair of the City's Public Works and Urban Beautification Committee. "It's important we focus on getting the school zones cleared out before the next snow event, which is expected later in the week. As soon as crews have a better handle on the school zones, we'll focus on the downtown and other areas of the City. We continue to ask for the public's patience and cooperation as this snow removal process does take time."

Councillor Bernard said he recommends morning commuters use the parkades on Fitzroy, Queen and Pownal, take advantage of Trius Transit or carpool until more parking spaces can be cleared of snow.
