2015-08-11 - Neighbourhood Meeting to be Held About Connaught Square

The City of Charlottetown Parks, Recreation and Leisure Activities Committee will host a Neighbourhood Meeting in September or October to gather feedback on the recent work done at the historic Connaught Square.

The meeting date and location of the meeting will be announced in the coming weeks.

"We know that there have been some members of the surrounding neighbourhood who are not happy with the end product in the park in terms of the playground equipment, so we are committing to another meeting about Connaught Square," said Councillor Mitchell Tweel, Chair of the City’s Parks, Recreation and Leisure Activities Committee. "We want to ensure everyone is heard and this meeting will allow that to happen so that we can all move forward in a positive way with a park that everyone is happy with."

The work in Connaught Square ties into the City’s Heritage Squares Conceptual Master Plans and Design Guidelines. The document, which outlines plans for each of the four historic squares (Rochford, Connaught, King and Hillsborough) includes a design concept and ideas from the community for Connaught Square. The Plan is available in the Quick Links menu at www.charlottetown.ca. Residents can also view a hardcopy by visiting the Parks and Recreation Department at City Hall, 199 Queen Street.

"I’ve received a number of calls and emails and had people approaching me on the street to talk to me about the play equipment at Connaught Square so I think it’s worth another look," added Councillor Tweel. "I encourage the community to stay tuned for the meeting date and join us for an update and frank discussion about this historic park."

More information on the Neighbourhood meeting will be sent to local media and posted online to the City’s News and Notices section at www.charlottetown.ca, on Facebook at www.facebook.com/CityofCharlottetown and Twitter: @ChtownPE. Residents in the area will also be contacted.
