T3 Transit, the City of Charlottetown, Town of Stratford, and Town of Cornwall are celebrating the 10th anniversary of transit together and invite the public to join in.
The tri-municipal service has three goals as part of the anniversary: celebrating 10 years of service, thanking the people who currently use transit, and encouraging others to try the service.
"We’ve had 10 years of growth and success with a service that has become a part of life for many people," said Mike Cassidy, owner of the Transit system. "I thank the elected officials who had the courage to implement and fund the system. I’d also like to thank our many customers for their continuous support, as well as our dedicated staff who make it all happen. We have a lot to celebrate together."
As part of the 10th anniversary celebrations, anyone who rides transit in Cornwall, Stratford or Charlottetown on October 2 will be given a ballot for a chance to win a prize from one of the three municipalities.
"The transit system would not exist in our communities without the support of our riders. Whether a regular or occasional user, it is because of your commitment to take the bus that we continue to be able to offer this service," said Stratford Mayor David Dunphy. "And we would love to see it grow and expand as more Islanders take the bus."
For those who have never tried the transit system, Transit information sessions will be held in each municipality. In each community, commuters can speak with a Transit representative to learn more about the Transit schedule and how to use the service. In Stratford and Cornwall, those participating in the information sessions will actually ride the bus with the representative to see how the service works. The times and locations for the information sessions are as follows:
• Cornwall Civic Centre: 7:11 a.m. and 7:38 a.m. Please arrive five minutes early to board the bus.
• Confederation Court Mall (by TD Bank): A rep is available at the booth from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.
• Stratford Town Hall: Information sessions at 7:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. Please arrive five minutes early to board the bus.

"Cornwall is pleased to have partnered with Stratford, Charlottetown and Trius Transit in growing T3 Transit," said Cornwall Mayor Minerva McCourt. "We also wish to acknowledge the support of the Provincial Government in this initiative. On behalf of the Cornwall Town Council, I am pleased to acknowledge the time and efforts of everyone who have and continue to contribute to the success of T3 Transit."
At a news conference on Wednesday, September 30, Cassidy and representatives from the three municipalities announced the details of the celebrations and provided some highlights from the past ten years.
"There are some incredibly dedicated people who have worked for years to ensure this service remains available to the people in our communities," said Charlottetown Mayor Clifford Lee. "The Transit system wouldn’t be what it is today without owner Mike Cassidy, the bus drivers, all T3 transit employees, those who advocate for the service, and those who use it."
"Ten years ago many people did not think Charlottetown was ready for a Transit system," said Cassidy. "Today, it takes 12 buses travelling more than 2,300 kilometres each day to provide service to Charlottetown, Cornwall and Stratford with an average of 1,600 passenger fares per day. As I’ve said before, it takes never-ending energy and passion, with the belief that failure is not an option, to have transit succeed."
