The City of Charlottetown has partnered with UPEI student Nathalia Hipolita Cardozo on a survey designed to gather feedback from cyclists about topics such as bicycle parking needs, the safety of existing bike routes and winter biking.
Ms. Cardozo is working on the survey as part of an internship with the City through the UPEI Department of Environmental Studies. The focus of the internship is cycling in Charlottetown.
The data will be used to generate a report on cycling needs in the city. The survey results will be used to look at improvements that can be made to biking infrastructure in Charlottetown.
Promoting cycling and other means of active transportation were identified as important goals in the City's Integrated Community Sustainability Plan. Cycling assists in reducing commuter traffic and its associated greenhouse gas emissions. Cycling also increases health and wellbeing through active lifestyles.
