2016-04-01 - City Announces 2016 Micro-Grant Program

The City of Charlottetown’s Environment and Sustainability Committee is now accepting applications for the 2016 Micro-Grant Program.

The Community Micro-Grant program offers small scale grants to community groups and individuals that are planning an event or project which works towards the goals and actions of the City’s Integrated Community Sustainability Plan (ICSP). Eligible projects offer a range in focus areas, engage the community in sustainability and relate to one or more of the four pillars of sustainability; environmental, economic, cultural and social.

"The City’s Micro-Grant Program is an excellent opportunity for residents to share their ideas and work towards a more sustainable community," said Charlottetown Mayor Clifford Lee. "This program has been very beneficial to the community over the past five years and we are excited to see what ideas come forward for this year."

Proposals that meet the application criteria will be given five minutes to share their idea with the community at the Inspired City Micro-Grant Pitch Party in early May. Event attendees will vote for the projects they feel will make the best contribution to sustainability in Charlottetown.  The top voted proposals at the Pitch Party will receive grants of up to a maximum of $2,500 and must complete their project in 2016.

"The launch of this program is very timely as we are also in the process of gathering the feedback to create the new ICSP plan," said Councillor Bob Doiron, Chair of the Environment and Sustainability committee. "The projects chosen through the Community Micro-Grant program are often inspiring and educational so we’re really looking forward to hearing the pitches at the community event."

The deadline to submit an application is Monday, April 25 by 5 p.m. Participants are encouraged to submit their application online. For more information on the Micro-Grant Program, visit: www.charlottetown.ca and click on the Micro-Grant button.
