2016-07-05 - REMINDER: Residents Encouraged to Participate in Gardening Competition

The City of Charlottetown is reminding residents that the deadline to apply or nominate entrants for the annual Make Charlottetown Bloom program is Monday, July 11.

The gardening program is designed to reward those who maintain buildings and landscapes within City limits. Businesses and residents can self-nominate or nominate someone else.

Entries in the Make Charlottetown Bloom competition are judged based on design, variety, colour, unique features and maintenance. The 2016 categories are as follows: Commercial Properties; Institutional Properties; Birds and the Bees; Flower Gardens; Window Boxes, Planters, and Hanging Baskets; Water Wise Property; Irene Rogers Pocket Gardens; Edible Gardens; Curb Appeal; Children and Youth Gardens; Adopt a Corner; and the Mayor’s Award.

The Mayor’s Award will be presented by Charlottetown Mayor Clifford Lee to the property owner who demonstrates the best overall improvement to their home or grounds.

Volunteer judges will be judging all entries/properties from July 25 until August 5. The awards will be presented at the Make Charlottetown Bloom Awards evening in the late summer. Anyone interested in being a volunteer judge, can contact the City at 902-566-5548.

Submission forms can be picked up at City Hall (199 Queen Street). An online entry form is available, along with the contest rules, at: www.charlottetown.ca by clicking on the Make Charlottetown Bloom button. Applicants are encouraged to use the online form or drop off to City Hall in the event there is a disruption in postal service.
