Juno Award-Winners to Headline Mainstage Tent on Opening Night
Charlottetown, July 15, 2016 - Wintersleep will headline opening night at the 2016 TD PEI Jazz & Blues Festival Mainstage Tent on August 25th.
Born out of Halifax, Nova Scotia in 2001, Wintersleep has seen its star steadily rise over the past 15 years from a relatively obscure debut album, to the critically-acclaimed Juno Award-winning Welcome to the Night Sky, and their recent worldwide contract announcement with Dine Around Records. Fresh off the release of their sixth studio album which critics are calling some of the most memorable and engaging songs of their career, Wintersleep is sure to entertain with favourites like Weighty Ghost, Black Camera, and In Came the Floor, as well as recent chart topper, Amerika.
Wintersleep will be joined on stage by Charlottetown-based roots-rock band, Andrew Waite and the Firm.
"Events like the TD PEI Jazz & Blues Festival make important contributions to Prince Edward Island’s cultural scene," said Education, Early Learning and Culture Minister Doug Currie. "The Province of Prince Edward Island is a proud partner of this world class event, and I encourage Islanders and visitors, whether long-time fans or first time patrons, to come out and support the Festival by taking in a performance or two from some of Canada’s finest musicians."
Friday evening at the Mainstage Tent will see a special twist on the local, well-known Got Blues Jam as Chris Roumbanis and Got Blues are joined by two of the East-Coast’s fastest rising blues stars, Kendra Gale and Amanda Jackson, for an unforgettable night of collaboration entitled Girls Got Blues. Australian country-blues duo, Hat Fitz and Cara will open the evening’s performances.
Today’s artists join previously announced 2016 TD PEI Jazz & Blues Festival headliners including Canadian rock legends, Lighthouse; multi-award winning artist, John Gracie; emerging East-Coast talent, Port Cities; and renowned chanteuse, Molly Johnson with her Juno-nominated Billie Holiday tribute project, Because of Billie.
The 2016 TD PEI Jazz & Blues Festival is proudly supported by the Government of Canada, Province of Prince Edward Island, City of Charlottetown, and the Charlottetown Tourism Accommodation Levy. Tickets start at only $15 (plus tax and fees) and are available through Eastlink Centre Charlottetown’s Box Office.
