Preparations are underway for the upcoming City of Charlottetown Mayor’s Newcomer Reception. City staff, along with newcomer ambassadors are busy creating welcome packages and an orientation schedule for newcomers.
The Mayor’s Newcomer Reception, in partnership with the PEI Newcomers Association, will be held on Thursday, August 4, from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. The event is designed to extend a special welcome to all newcomers. Those who participate in the event will be provided with an opportunity to tour City Hall, learn about the different City departments and meet the Mayor and Council members in an informal setting.
The Charlottetown newcomer ambassadors will be at the reception as volunteer peer supports, helping to break down any potential language barriers and ensure the event is welcoming and comfortable for people of all different nationalities and cultures.
Among the volunteers will be (pictured from left) Elaine Nguyen from Vietnam, Dima Mreesh from Syria, and Ali Siadat from Iran.
The Mayor’s Newcomer Reception is open to all newcomers who live and work in the Capital City. For more information, contact: 902-566-5548.
