The City of Charlottetown will host a free cycling event on Sunday, September 11 that will include a bike rodeo, bike repair clinic, information sessions, a guided group ride, refreshments, prizes and giveaways. The activities will begin at the Hillsborough Park Community Centre at 1 p.m. and wrap up at 4 p.m. at Joe Ghiz Memorial Park.
"Through the work of our Sustainability Officer and the feedback from the community as we update our Integrated Community Sustainability Plan, we know that residents are looking for support for sustainable transportation, active living and family friendly events," said Charlottetown Mayor Clifford Lee. "This event is just one of the many initiatives we have in the works that align with those goals and encourage the community to come together."
Pre-registration for the cycling event is required. To register, visit: https://citycharlottetown.wufoo.com/forms/cycle-our-city-event-registration/ or call 902-566-5548. There is no cost to register and people of all ages and abilities are welcome. Participants must bring their own bicycle. Helmets are mandatory to participate in the bike rodeo and guided bike ride. Children must be supervised by an adult.
"This event is intended to be both fun and educational and it really doesn’t matter whether cycling is a regular pastime that you already enjoy or whether it’s an activity that you’d just like to try out," said Deputy Mayor Mike Duffy, Chair of the City’s Environment and Sustainability Committee. "We encourage everyone to get involved, check out the schedule and join us for this cycling event."
