2016-11-22 - Accessible Parking Awareness Day on November 24

The City of Charlottetown is recognizing November 24 as Accessible Parking Awareness Day and using it as an opportunity to remind the public of the importance of ensuring accessible parking spaces are left open for those who are legally entitled to use them.

The Designated Parking Permit Program serves approximately 6,700 Islanders with mobility impairment and provides easier access to buildings such as stores and offices. The program is managed in this province by the PEI Council of People with Disabilities.

Parking permits are provided to those unable to walk more than 75 metres without serious difficulty or danger to their safety or health. These permits and designated spaces are a necessity for people with disabilities – not a privilege.

On November 24 – and every day thereafter – please help the City remove barriers for persons with disabilities and respect the designated parking spaces and those entitled to use them.
