The City of Charlottetown’s Public Works Department will continue to work with Police Services on enforcement of the overnight winter parking restrictions from 11 p.m. until 6 a.m. daily, until further notice. The nightly focus will be on residential areas first, allowing businesses that are open late into the evening to operate as usual.
Over the next few days, City crews will be operating three snow blowers each night. Two of the blowers will be loading a rotation of approximately 40 trucks in order to haul the snow out of the downtown area. The third snow blower will continue to widen streets.
Sidewalk machines are in full operation and progress is being made, but the snow accumulation and heavy packed drifts are making the process slower than normal. In some areas, the snow will need to be hauled before the sidewalks will be cleared as the banks are high and too hard packed for the sidewalk machines and there is nowhere to put the snow. This means that some areas will not have sidewalks cleared until the snow hauling operation reaches the area.
Motorists are asked to drive slow on narrow roads and be extra vigilant of pedestrians. The continued patience and cooperation of the public is greatly appreciated as the crews work hard to finish the cleanup.
