The City of Charlottetown sends congratulations to the Town of O’Leary on recently being named winner of Kraft Hockeyville 2017.
Prince Edward Island came together to show support for the O’Leary Community Sports Centre by voting throughout the Kraft Hockeyville competition. According to Kraft Hockeyville, over 2.4 million votes were cast in the final round of the competition. For the past 11 years, Kraft Hockeyville has rallied communities together to celebrate and strengthen the future of hockey in Canada. This is the first time that a PEI community has won the Kraft Hockeyville title.
"Congratulations to O’Leary and all Islanders who voted for the community in the Kraft Hockeyville competition," said Mayor Clifford Lee. "This is a huge win for O’Leary but it’s also a win for Islanders. The way this province came together to make this happen was incredible. It truly speaks to how much can be accomplished if we work together. We should all be proud to call this province home."
In addition to $100,000 in arena upgrades to O’Leary Community Sports Centre, the community will have the opportunity to host a pre-season game between the New Jersey Devils and Ottawa Senators on Sept. 25, 2017.
