Don’t miss the City of Charlottetown’s Canada 150 celebrations! The ships taking part in the RDV2017 Tall Ships Regatta begin their Parade of Sails on Friday, June 30 at approximately 8:50 a.m. It’s expected the last ship will dock at noon.
Free deck tours are available to public on Friday, June 30 from 2-4 p.m. at Port Charlottetown and Queen’s Wharf and again from 4-7 p.m. at Port Charlottetown. On Saturday, July 1 and Sunday, June 2, deck tours are available from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. at both Port Charlottetown and Queen’s Wharf.
The visiting ships include: Bark Europa, Oosterschelde, Blue Clipper, USCGC Eagle, Rona II, Jolie Brise, Vahine, BAP Union, and HMCS Oriole. Supporting vessels HMCS Charlottetown and Canada C3 will also be at Port Charlottetown, along with Québec City cultural performers - ÖHÉ, and the Pirates of Halifax.
The Québec City cultural performers will perform at 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. at Port Charlottetown on Friday, June 30. On July 1-2, they will perform at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. The Pirates of Halifax will have performances throughout the day on Saturday and Sunday at Port Charlottetown and Queen’s Wharf between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Anyone visiting Port Charlottetown is encouraged to carpool or walk to site, if possible. Limited public parking is available in the parking lot to the left off of Stan Macpherson Way. Accessible parking will also be available on site.
The public is advised that Port Charlottetown will be operating at the MARSEC Level 1 as per Transportation Canada regulations. This means that there will be security screening and a bag check before the public will be permitted access to the Tall Ships. Backpacks and large bags will not be permitted, but can be checked at a baggage check at the security gate. The public is encouraged to bring only what they need while on site.
The Vendor Village inside Port Charlottetown, with souvenirs, refreshments and island treasures, will be open during the deck tour times June 30 – July 2. Guest services will also be operating.
Outside of deck tour times, the public is also invited to take photos from along the waterfront as the ships will be highly visible all weekend.
