2017-11-28 - Landmarks to Light Up in Red in Honour of Team Canada Visit

The World Sledge Hockey Challenge returns to Charlottetown for the second-straight year and will be held at the MacLauchlan Arena from Dec. 3-9. In honour of the event, the City Hall bell tower, Holman Grand Hotel and Confederation Centre of the Arts will be lit up in red when Team Canada arrives on November 30 and remain lit until the event ends on December 9.

Some of the world’s top parasport athletes will be visiting the Capital City to participate in the World Sledge Hockey Challenge. In addition, it’s expected the event will have a positive tourism impact in the shoulder season with many lasting legacies for the sport.

The event is being hosted by ParaSport and Recreation PEI, in partnership with the City of Charlottetown, Hockey Canada, and Hockey PEI. Prince Edward Island has a successful history of hosting this world-class international event. This year will mark the fourth time Charlottetown serves as host; it previously welcomed the sledge hockey world in 2008, 2009 and 2016.

All preliminary round, semi-final and the bronze medal games will be streamed live at HockeyCanada.ca, while TSN and RDS, Hockey Canada’s official broadcast partners, will broadcast the gold medal game, Saturday, Dec. 9 at 4 p.m. ET/5 p.m. AT; check local listing for details.
