2014-08-19 - Charlottetown Garden Unveiling and Neighbourhood Social Moves Indoors

The City of Charlottetown’s neighbourhood social and garden unveiling event planned for this evening (August 19) has been moved indoors because of wet conditions and colder temperatures.

The neighbourhood social for Parkdale will begin at 5 p.m. and take place in the Murchison Centre, instead of the J. Frank MacAulay Park where the new garden is located.

The garden is one of seven new signature gardens being unveiled in the city this summer as part of the City of Charlottetown’s annual neighbourhood socials. The gardens are spread throughout the city and each one is dedicated to a PEI Father of Confederation.

The socials and garden unveilings include a BBQ, strawberries and ice cream, bingo, musical entertainment and children’s activities. Residents of each neighbourhood are welcome to participate in the event planned for their community.

The gardens are located outside at the West Royalty Community Centre, Hillsborough Park Community Centre, Centennial Park, J. Frank MacAulay Park, Malcolm J. Darrach Park, Highfield Park, and Queen Elizabeth Park.

Each garden includes a boulder with a plaque inscription about a PEI Father of Confederation, benches, floral and shrubbery displays and fully accessible walkways.

Posters for the neighbourhood socials and signature garden unveiling events have been distributed to the individual communities. More information is available on the City’s event calendar at: www.charlottetown.ca
