The City of Charlottetown has been named as one of the Top 10 Economic Development Groups in Canada by Site Selection Magazine out of Atlanta, Georgia. Charlottetown is the only city in Atlantic Canada to be recognized within these rankings.
The ranking is part of Site Selection’s seventh annual Canada’s Best to Invest awards and is based on April 2013 - March 2014 corporate end-user facility investment and job creation data, which includes corporate facility investment, related job creation, partnerships, proactive programming and web resources.
Site Selection Editor-in-Chief Mark Arend said, "the annual Canada’s Best Locations feature sheds additional light on Canada’s many location options for corporate site selectors. We salute the provinces and communities that made this year’s rankings."
Mayor Clifford Lee said he’s pleased with the acknowledgement from the international publication.
"Charlottetown has proven itself as a competitive destination for investment," said Mayor Lee. "We also have excellent partners who work hard to make sure our city is open for business, such as Innovation PEI, the Charlottetown Area Development Corporation, our Chamber of Commerce, Downtown Charlottetown Inc., Discover Charlottetown, PEI BioAlliance, and others. And, of course, our development community and private sector investors should also share in this recognition."
Deputy Mayor Stu MacFadyen, Chair of the City’s Economic Development and Culture Committee was also happy to see the city recognized as a Top 10 location for economic development.
"Charlottetown is a vibrant, well-rounded city that punches well above its weight," said Deputy Mayor MacFadyen. "We have been recognized as an excellent business cost location. We have available, skilled labour and have worked hard to create an environment for commerce. Why wouldn’t you want to do business here?"
