Contact East, Atlantic Canada's performing arts conference, wrapped up last week in Pictou, NS and saw over 260 arts professionals attend showcases, professional development workshops and conduct business over the four-day conference.
Thirty-five artists, including Còig, MOTUS O dance theatre, Tom Allen’s JUDGEMENT OF PARIS, and Robert Post took the stage at the deCoste Centre for the 24th edition of Contact East, presented by Atlantic Presenters Association. Contact East is known as an event where thousands of dollars are invested in booking artists to perform in theatres and at festivals throughout Atlantic Canada and around the world. Contact East saw record attendance during the professional development workshops, which included topics such as an Audience Development Success Stories, Life of a Deal, CAPACOA’s The Succession Plan (mentorship program) and more.
In addition, Contact East also handed out their annual Awards of Excellence on Sunday, September 28th. This year’s winners include: Community Presenter of the Year, Mount Allison Performing Arts Series; Professional Presenter of the Year, TD Halifax Jazz Festival; Touring Artist of the Year, Jeremy Webb/Off The Leash Creative; and the Award of Excellence, Celtic Colours International Festival.

To be acknowledged in this way by my peers is especially rewarding given that the members are all doing such remarkable work. It has been a great privilege to be a part of Celtic Colours over the years and gratifying to be recognized for that work."
Contact East has announced Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island as the host city for 2015, "The City of Charlottetown is absolutely thrilled to have been selected to host Contact East, Atlantic Canada's performing arts conference, in 2015," said Charlottetown Mayor Clifford Lee. "The cultural sector in Charlottetown is vibrant, and we have been working hard to support, honour and strengthen that industry. Hosting the region's premiere conference for theatre, music, and dance talent will be a real coup for our culture community, as well as our citizens and visitors who will be able to take in performance showcases."
