The City of Charlottetown’s Wintertide Holiday Festival begins on November 21 with the annual tradition of the candlelight walk and Christmas tree lighting.
The festive celebration will begin at 6:15 p.m. at Province House – outside the Grafton Street entrance. Residents and visitors are encouraged to participate and will be given a candle for the candlelight walk to the Confederation Centre of the Arts Upper Plaza where the Christmas tree lighting event will take place at approximately 6:30 p.m.
"The Wintertide Holiday Festival includes some of the many seasonal celebrations and activities taking place throughout the city into the New Year," said Charlottetown Mayor Clifford Lee. "This festival helps kick-off what has become a tradition of goodwill giving in our communities and it is a great opportunity to get together with friends and family to celebrate our blessings and the holiday season."
The Wintertide Holiday Festival candlelight walk and Christmas tree lighting includes special guests, Father Christmas and the Confederation Centre Youth Choir. Hot chocolate and treats will be provided.
Also on November 21, the 2014-2015 edition of the Wintertide Holiday Festival Calendar of Events will be available to the public. The calendar is a collection of the many season events and activites coordinated by the City of Charlottetown, community organizers, groups and residents for all to enjoy from November 21, 2014 until January 5, 2015.
The calendar will be available at the Charlottetown City Hall Tourism Department and Confederation Centre of the Arts (Atrium off Queen Street). A copy will also be available for download on November 21 at www.charlottetown.ca by clicking on the Wintertide button.
