2014-11-21 - Wintertide Festivities Kick-Off in Charlottetown Tonight

The City of Charlottetown’s Wintertide Holiday Festival begins tonight (November 21) with the annual candlelight walk and Christmas tree lighting.

Festivities start at 6:15 p.m. at Province House - Grafton Street entrance - where participants will receive a free candle for the candlelight walk to the Confederation Centre Upper Plaza. The Christmas tree illumination will take place on the Upper Plaza at 6:30 p.m.

The Wintertide Holiday Festival candlelight walk and Christmas tree lighting includes special guests, Father Christmas and the Confederation Centre Youth Choir. Hot chocolate and treats will be provided.

From 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on November 21, Grafton Street will be closed from University Avenue to Queen Street. Parking will also be restricted.

In addition to the Wintertide Holiday Festival launch, the 2014-2015 edition of the Wintertide Holiday Festival Calendar of Events is now available to the public. The calendar is a collection of many seasonal events and activities coordinated by the City of Charlottetown, community organizers, groups and residents for all to enjoy from November 2014 until January 5, 2015.

The calendar is available at the Wintertide candlelight walk and tree lighting. Limited copies are also available at the Charlottetown City Hall Tourism Department and Confederation Centre of the Arts (Atrium off Queen Street). An electronic copy is can be downloaded at www.charlottetown.ca by clicking on the Wintertide button.
