Charlottetown Mayor Clifford Lee has appointed Councillor Mike Duffy as the new Deputy Mayor of Charlottetown City Council.
Mike Duffy was elected on November 3, 2014 to serve as councillor in Ward 3 (Brighton). He also served on City Council from 1993-2000. During that time, he chaired the parks and recreation committee and also served on the planning board, heritage review board, police services committee and with human resources.
Aside from municipal politics, Duffy was the business manager and assistant administrator at the Hillsborough Hospital. He also served as the senior policy analyst at the Department of Veterans Affairs. He is now retired from the Department of Veterans Affairs.
"Mike Duffy has been appointed to serve as Deputy Mayor because of his past experience on council and the work that he has done with many of our departments throughout his time at City Hall," said Mayor Lee. "That past experience will serve him well in this position as Deputy Mayor. He’s also well-known in the community and is willing and able to put in the time commitments required for this new role. He has big shoes to fill following former Deputy Mayor Stu MacFadyen’s retirement from municipal politics, but I’m confident Mike is up to the task."
Duffy was officially appointed Deputy Mayor at a special meeting of City Council on December 2. The next council meeting will be held on December 8.
