The Charlottetown Parks and Recreation Department has launched its 2015 Winter Active Campaign with free activities designed to encourage people of all ages to be more active during the winter months.
Bundle up and go for a walk or try skating, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing or just get out and participate in a favourite winter activity. The following trails/boardwalks are available for winter walking: the boardwalk from Victoria Park to the Friendly Pharmacy, Victoria Park Trails, Beach Grove Trials and the Confederation Trail within City limits. For Cross-Country skiers, the City maintains groomed ski trails at Victoria Park and Belvedere Golf Course. Ski trail maps are available at the Recreation Office, 199 Queen Street.
A snowshoeing program is being offered on Sundays from January 18 until March 8 from 2-4 p.m. at Victoria Park (snow conditions permitting). A Go!Skating program is being offered and it includes free family skates on Sunday, January 18 from 2-3 p.m. at the Simmons Arena and Sunday, February 15 from 3-4 p.m. at the Cody Banks Arena. A 10-week Learn to Run program will take place on Wednesdays beginning January 21 from 6-7 p.m. at the UPEI Sports Centre (Field House). For those who prefer a slower pace, a Go!Walking Club will get together on Thursdays from 5:30-6:30 p.m., beginning January 22.
More details of the campaign and the free activities can be found on the City’s website at www.charlottetown.ca under the Winter Activities button (www.charlottetown.ca/winteractive.php). Please note that outdoor activities are weather dependent.
