Celebrate Islander Day in the Capital City this year with a full day of free, family oriented activities. The City of Charlottetown is hosting Islander Family Fun Day on Monday, February 16 - an event that includes family swims, bowling, a theatre production, skating at the Simmons Sport Centre and more.
"Hosting an Islander Day celebration of activities for all ages has become a great tradition in Charlottetown and one that we're pleased to continue in 2015 with Islander Family Fun Day," said Charlottetown Mayor Clifford Lee. "Islander Day provides a short winter break and we want to give visitors and citizens of our great city a range of free activities that they can enjoy with their families during this much deserved holiday."
Islander Family Fun Day, a condensed version of WinterFun Weekend, kicks off at the West Royalty Community Centre at 8 a.m. with a free pancake breakfast that includes entertainment and a visit from mascot Charlie Town. A free Cineplex movie, "How to Train Your Dragon 2" is being offered at 10 a.m. The Guild is offering performances of The Ugly Ducking by Cat's Pajamas Theatre Company at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. The CARI pool is hosting a family swim from 1 p.m. - 2 p.m. and 2 p.m. - 3 p.m., but the free tickets must be picked up in advance.
A family skate will take place at the Simmons Sports Centre at 2 p.m. and Glow-in-the-dark bowling is being offered at Murphy's Community Centre at 3:30 p.m. Bowling lanes must be booked in advance. Islander Family Fun Day also includes free access to the indoor walking track at UPEI. More details and the full schedule are available at www.charlottetown.ca
