2015-05-05 - City Celebrates Literacy With Reading Town Canada Events

Literacy related events are taking place all over the city this week as part of the National Reading Campaign’s Reading Town Canada project.

The National Reading Campaign launched Reading Town Canada in 2014 to demonstrate an exemplary model of what a reading Canada looks like. For one week, the chosen host city or town weaves reading into every aspect of daily life through a series of events. This year, Charlottetown and Calgary, Alberta are the host cities. The week-long celebration from May 2 to May 9 will include a variety of events that celebrate reading.

The list of events can be found at: www.nationalreadingcampaign.ca/reading-town-events/ and the list of events specific to the Confederation Centre Public Library is available at: http://www.library.pe.ca/events#CHA

The City of Charlottetown and Boys and Girls Club of Charlottetown have partnered on a fun and engaging literary event as part of the project. The event is called "Spring Into A Book". It’s open to children of all ages and their parents and will be held at 35 St. Peters Road on Friday, May 8 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Participants will see, hear and read books written by local authors. Highlighting the afternoon event will be a performance by "The Music Man" Michael Pendergast, along with a meet and greet and story time with City police, fire fighters and local councillors.

City of Charlottetown Utility Projects Officer Betty Pryor will present stories and activities that celebrate Drinking Water Week on Tuesday, May 5 at 1:30 p.m. at the Confederation Centre Public Library.
