The City of Charlottetown welcomed an enthusiastic group of elementary students to Victoria Park today (May 15) to celebrate Arbor Day. And what a beautiful day for it!

Arbor Day is a celebration of the importance of our forests and green spaces. It has been an ongoing tradition across North America since 1872. Residents are encouraged to take a hands-on role in beautifying the community and realizing the importance of trees to our quality of life here in Charlottetown.

Nearly 150 students from Grace Christian School, West Kent Elementary, St. Jean Elementary and École François-Buote participated in the City of Charlottetown’s 2015 Arbor Day activities, which included a nature tour, invasive species detection, tree planting, mulching and nature themed games – among other activities.

The students each received a tree seedling to take home, thanks to the Provincial Government’s Greening Spaces program.

For information on how to get your school involved in the City’s Arbor Day activities, contact 902-566-5548.
