2015-06-04 - City Announces 2015 Community Sustainability Micro Grant Recipients

The City of Charlottetown Environment and Sustainability Committee has selected the recipients for the 2015 Community Sustainability Micro Grants. Ten community-based projects were selected to receive funding. Projects were selected based on their ability to work towards the goals and actions of the City’s Integrated Community Sustainability Plan (ICSP), and their ability to engage the community in sustainability.

"The City’s Micro Grant Program provides us with a great opportunity to offer assistance to community groups and individuals in their sustainability efforts," said Charlottetown Mayor Clifford Lee. "The applications we received show such a diversity of interests and expertise among people of the community."

The projects selected offer a range in focus areas and relate to one or more of the four pillars of sustainability; environmental, economic, cultural and social. Projects include everything from improving wildlife habitat in the city to engaging youth in drug use prevention to providing workshops on food preservation. Each applicant receives up to $2,500 to complete their project in 2015.

"We were really impressed with the caliber of applications this year and think we have selected some excellent community projects for 2015," said Councillor Bob Doiron, Chair of the Environment and Sustainability committee. "These organizations and individuals genuinely care about making Charlottetown a more sustainable community and we feel very fortunate to be able to partner with them in their endeavor."

A complete listing of the successful applicants and a summary of their projects is attached below. The information is also available at www.charlottetown.ca/microgrant.php
