2015-07-22 - Deadline Extended for Local Gardening Competition

The deadline for submissions or nominations for the Make Charlottetown Bloom competition has been extended to Wednesday, July 29 at 12 p.m. (noon).

The program is designed to reward those who maintain buildings and landscapes within City limits. Businesses and residents can self-nominate or nominate someone else.

Entries are judged based on design, variety, colour, unique features and maintenance. The categories are as follows:
Commercial Properties; Birds and the Bees; Flower Gardens; Window Boxes, Planters, Baskets; Water Wise Property; Make Your Bins Beautiful; Adopt A Barrel; Adopt a Corner; and the Mayor’s Award.

Judging will begin following the submission/nomination deadline and is expected to wrap up by August 7. The results will be shared at an awards ceremony on September 10.

During the ceremony, the Mayor’s Award will be presented by Charlottetown Mayor Clifford Lee to the property owner that demonstrates the best overall improvement to their home or grounds.

First-place winners from the previous year are not eligible to enter that same category for a one-year period, but are eligible to enter other categories.

Registration forms can be picked up at City Hall. A digital copy of the entry form is available online, along with the contest rules, at: www.charlottetown.ca by clicking on the Communities in Bloom button on the homepage or the Make Charlottetown Bloom link in the Quick Links menu.
