Beginning Sunday September 13, Charlottetown will have Transit service seven days a week on University Avenue.
"Route 1 on University Avenue from Downtown to the Charlottetown Mall has always been the busiest route for T3 Transit," said Mike Cassidy, owner of the Transit system. "Sunday service is a natural progression for University Avenue. We offer 15-minute service during the day, extended 30-minute service in the evenings and now, Sunday service from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m."
T3 Transit feels students, Sunday shoppers and employees getting to and from work will take advantage of the new service. On April 19, Transit provided a Sunday service to get UPEI students to their exams. The company was pleasantly surprised with the comments from the students and its regular Transit users. "Everyone was asking if we are going to have this service each week," reflects Cassidy. "It gave us the confidence that a Sunday operation was needed and we prepared a full report to the City requesting their approval."
Charlottetown Mayor Lee said he is impressed with the growth of Transit in the city over the past 10 years, saying "It has become an essential service for many of our residents and I am pleased to see Sunday added to the transit schedule for University Avenue."
