The City of Charlottetown is congratulating one of its own this week as Sustainability Officer Ramona Doyle was chosen as one of 50 Atlantic Canadian leaders for the 21inc Under 40 Summit.

Doyle was recognized by 21inc as one of Atlantic Canada’s most inspiring, entrepreneurial leaders under the age of 40. She and seven others from PEI, along with 16 from Nova Scotia, 16 from New Brunswick and 10 from Newfoundland, will attend 21inc’s 2015 Under 40 Summit this November, which is being hosted in Charlottetown.

"It’s heartening to see City of Charlottetown staff winning awards or being recognized for involvement in the community, passion for their field of work and overall dedication," said Charlottetown Mayor Clifford Lee. "Ramona is one such employee who continues to be recognized in the broader community for her hard work and commitment to positive change. We are proud of her and would like to publicly congratulate her for all that she does for the city."

Selection by 21inc was based on seven core competencies: strategic and visionary thinking; collaboration, building and maintaining relationships; clear communication; a champion of change; innovation; and global citizenry. Of those selected, 49 percent contribute in the private sector, 21 percent in not-for-profit organizations, 18 percent in the public sector and 12 percent in academia. Included are entrepreneurs, health care professionals, NGO leaders, PhD candidates, and a host of other professional backgrounds. Doyle has served as the City’s Sustainability Officer since April 2014, and prior to that she did extensive work with the Water and Sewer Utility Department.

"Ramona exemplifies professionalism and leadership in everything she does at City Hall and in the community," said Roy Main, City of Charlottetown CAO. "We are proud of her and we look forward to hearing about her experiences at the Summit. It’s a great opportunity and one that is well deserved."

By attending the Summit and the 2015 Ideas Festival, delegates will deepen their leadership competencies and join a growing network that will help them achieve even greater positive impact in the Atlantic region.

Lisa Hrabluk, of Wicked Ideas Media, is chair of 21inc’s Board of Directors. She said she is pleased with the quality of the cohort of participants in the summit this year.

"We are not creating leaders, we are enhancing leadership in Atlantic Canada," said Hrabluk. "Right after the Summit, we invite all leaders to join us in Charlottetown for our 2015 Ideas Festival.  It is the event to attend this Fall for inspiration and networking at its best."

The Under 40 Summit takes place November 1-4 and the Ideas Festival is Nov 4-6. For more information on the events, contact: 21inc Program Director Vanessa Paesani at vanessa@21inc.ca
