2015-10-16 - Flags of Remembrance Event This Weekend – Oct. 17

A dedication ceremony, Flags of Remembrance, will be held in Charlottetown on Saturday, October 17 at 2:45 p.m. at the Charlottetown Event Grounds in partnership with the Veterans Voices of Canada.

One hundred and twenty-eight Canadian flags will be raised across the country, paying tribute to the service men and women lost in armed conflict or missing-in-action from the years of the Boer War to the present. The flags will be raised at 12 p.m. (noon), beginning in Alberta with similar flag raisings taking place across Canada. In Charlottetown, the flag raising will be followed by the 2:45 p.m. dedication ceremony.

Each flag will be accompanied by a plaque recognizing and honouring individual veterans. The flags and plaques will remain in place until Remembrance Day ceremonies are completed.

If you are interested in sponsoring a flag, contact the local event organizer Charlene McInnis at 902-388-4087 or careet@gmail.com. Sponsorship opportunities for flags and memorial plaques will still be available on-site on Saturday or online via: https://canadahelps.org/dn/15303

Background:
This annual event serves as Veterans Voices of Canada’s primary fundraiser. All money raised through the Flags of Remembrance is used to fulfill the mandate of the organization; interviewing veterans, transcribing interviews, creating and disseminating DVDs and helping local organizations plan and manage their Flags of Remembrance celebrations. In locations where Veterans Voices has teamed up with a local non-profit organization, local funds raised are shared between Veterans Voices of Canada and that partnering organization.
