2015-10-22 - Change Your Clocks, Change Your Batteries

The City of Charlottetown Fire Department reminds the public that Daylight Savings Time ends on Sunday, November 1 at 2 a.m. Don’t forget to adjust your clocks to "Fall Back" one hour by adjusting the time backward.

The Fire Department encourages residents to use the end of Daylight Savings Time as a reminder to also change the batteries in smoke alarms and update or install new smoke alarms.

Smoke alarms are critical for fire safety and can help prevent fire-related injuries or even death. They should be installed on every level of your home and in all rooms where people sleep.

Members of the Charlottetown, Crossroads and North River Fire Departments will be at McDonalds on University Avenue on Saturday, October 31 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. handing out batteries for smoke alarms and reiterating these important fire safety messages.

On November 1, join fire officials from across the country in the Great Canadian Smoke Alarm Test. To participate, simply download, follow and confirm the completion of the four-step checklist available at: www.safeathome.ca/powerhour Commit to testing your smoke alarms as part of this national initiative.
