The public is invited to join the Chair of the Parks, Recreation and Leisure Activities Committee, Councillor Mitchell Tweel, for a Winter Walk along the new Victoria Boardwalk.
The event, hosted in association with Beaconsfield Historic Home, will begin at 2 p.m. on Sunday, January 24. Between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., come warm up in the Beaconsfield Carriage House with free hot chocolate and cookies or spend some time on the newly completed boardwalk.
The work on the boardwalk included: the removal of the old boardwalk; improving the drainage; upgrading the stringers; upgrading the decking to a marine-grade lumber; widening the boardwalk from eight feet to 10 feet; and upgrading the material below and behind the benches.
The January 24 Winter Walk on the boardwalk, is part of the Charlottetown Parks and Recreation Department’s 2016 Winter Active Campaign. It also includes other free activities designed to encourage people of all ages to be more active during the winter months. There is snowshoeing, a 10-week Learn to Run program, cross-country skiing and skating.
