Charlottetown Mayor Clifford Lee has issued a "toonie challenge" to all Island communities and municipal officials to help raise money and awareness for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation and the Alzheimer’s Society of PEI.
The challenge comes after Edward "Fast Eddy" Dostaler stopped by City Hall on his cross country run from Victoria, B.C. to St. John’s, Newfoundland and back. Dostaler is running across Canada for the two causes. He is currently on the second leg of the run, running through Prince Edward Islands on his way back to Victoria.
"Running across the country would be no easy feat, but this young man is doing it to raise funds for these two important causes and we just found that to be very inspiring," said Mayor Lee. "If you’re able to donate a toonie, we challenge you to do so to show support to Fast Eddy and to the many people whose lives have been touched by breast cancer or Alzheimer’s."
Donations will be accepted at City Hall, 199 Queen Street, until Thursday, February 4.
