The public is reminded that parking fees, parkade rates, fines and parking meter rates have increased, as originally presented in the 2016 budget.
Amendments to the Traffic Bylaw passed a third reading at the public meeting of Charlottetown City Council on Monday, June 13. The changes to the Traffic Bylaw are in effect.
Parking meter rates increased to $1.50 per hour and the hourly rate to park at the Fitzroy, Queen and Pownal parkades has increased to $1.25 per hour. Daily parkade rates have increased to $8.75 and monthly rates have increased to $114 (all HST included).
Parking violation fines have increased as follows: meter violations are $20 (reduced to $10 if paid within seven calendar days, including the day of the ticket), restricted parking fines are $35, with a new rate of $50 if not paid within 20 calendar days.
This is the first increase to parking fees since 2012 and the City encourages downtown workers to utilize parkades, parking lots, public transit or the new "Park and Ride" program. The Park & Ride rates are $1.25/hourly, $8.75 daily and $57 monthly (HST included). For more information on this program, contact: Susan Connell, CADC, at 902-892-5343 or email@example.com.
The public is also encouraged to take advantage of payment options such as the "HotSpot" app and the "Park Free" program offered in partnership with Downtown Charlottetown Inc. More information is available at: www.charlottetown.ca/parking.php
Parking fees and fines can be paid in person at City Hall (199 Queen Street), at the Charlottetown Police Station (10 Kirkwood Drive) or online by visiting: https://secure.city.charlottetown.pe.ca/tpay/t_plate.php.
