The City of Charlottetown's Parks and Recreation Department is now accepting registrations for Fall Programs.
Love badminton, but aren’t sure where to play? Join City Parks and Recreation staff at the West Royalty Community Centre every Saturday for 10 weeks of badminton. Children in grades 3-5 are invited from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., and children in grades 6-8 are welcome from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. The cost for the 10-week program is $30 for City residents and $40 for non-residents. This program will begin on October 1.
For basketball lovers, the City will offer a recreational program beginning October 18 at the West Royalty Community Centre. It will be available to girls every Tuesday from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. for grades 1 and 2 students. It will be available at 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. for those in grades 3 and 4. Boys in grades 1 and 2 can play on Wednesdays from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Boys in grades 3 and 4 can play basketball from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. The cost is $35 for residents and $45 for non-residents.
Beginning on October 1, an Intro to Sports program will be offered on Saturdays from 10:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at the West Royalty Community Centre. The Intro program is open to children ages 3 to 4 and provides them with an opportunity to experience a variety of sports and develop skills while having fun. On October 7, from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m. (noon) the Me and My Friends Program will be taking place at the West Royalty Community Centre. Children, ages 2 to 4, can interact with their peers, play with toys, make crafts and join City staff in singing and other activities. The cost for each 10-week program is $30 for residents and $45 for non-residents.
Ten-week adult fitness classes take place Monday and Thursday evenings from 7:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at the West Royalty Community Centre, and Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Park Royal United Church. The cost for the evening classes is $69 for City residents and $86.25 for non-residents.
The department is also offering a morning adult fitness class on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9:15 a.m. until 10:15 a.m. at the West Royalty Community Centre. The cost is $96.60 for City residents and $117.30 for non-residents. Drop-ins are welcome at all of the fitness programs at $5 per class.
There will be two seniors’ fitness classes. The downtown fitness class will take place on Monday and Wednesday mornings at the Trinity United Church gym. A second seniors’ fitness class will take place on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at the Park Royal United Church gym. All seniors’ classes take place from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. The cost is $40.25 for all seniors.
On Tuesdays, starting October 4 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., children in grades K-5 are invited to drop-in to the Hillsborough Park Community Centre for games, crafts and other fun activities. The cost is $1 per child, per night.
On Thursdays, starting October 6 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., youth from grades K-6 are invited to Sherwood Elementary School for basketball, badminton, soccer and other fun games. Beginning on October 7, youth from grades K-6 and their parents are welcome to join the Family Drop-In night for similar activities on Fridays from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the West Royalty Community Centre. The cost is $1 per person, per night.
