The Charlottetown Boys and Girls Club has adopted the J. Frank MacAulay Park and committed to helping keep the park clean.
The Boys and Girls Club regularly uses the J. Frank MacAulay Park for recreational programs. They asked to partner with the City to provide assistance in park cleanup activities every two weeks, as a way to give back to the community. The cleanup will involve the club members to teach them how to be responsible and how to care for the environment.
"We are pleased that the Boys and Girls Club of Charlottetown came up with this idea and wanted to officially adopt this City park," said Mayor Clifford Lee. "It’s great to see the Club members and our residents enjoying our parks. The cleanliness of the parks plays an important role in how often they are utilized and how people feel about spending time in them. This is an excellent partnership and we commend the Boys and Girls Club on their initiative."
The Boys and Girls Club of Charlottetown is a community-based, charitable organization dedicated to meeting the needs of more than 1,000 young people, ages of 6-29, through a variety of quality, structured educational, remedial, and recreational programs. The Boys and Girls Club of Charlottetown provides a safe environment and place to belong for all children and youth.
"The Boys and Girls Club provides excellent programing for Charlottetown youth," said Councillor Mitchell Tweel, chair of Parks, Recreation and Leisure committee. "City staff work tirelessly to keep all the parks maintained and clean, and the help from volunteers is greatly appreciated."
"We are so excited about this partnership! J. Frank MacAulay Park is truly an extension of our clubhouse and a second home to many of our programs," said Callen Cudmore, Director of Programming with the Boys and Girls Club of Charlottetown. "We try to instill in our members a sense of pride and ownership in their community, along with the importance of keeping the environment safe and clean."
