The City of Charlottetown presented a grant of $2,000 to the Atlantic chapter of the Sierra Club Foundation of Canada in support of its Wild Child Nature Immersion program. The environmental education program is designed to strengthen the environmental component of existing child care services and give children an increased opportunity to experience, explore, and play in a safe, local and natural setting.
Wild Child uses experiential activities, games, and art to take advantage of teachable moments that arise in nature. It includes free play to encourage children to use their imaginations.
Deputy Mayor Mike Duffy, Chair of the City’s Environment and Sustainability Committee, presented the grant to Hannah Gehrels, the PEI Wild Child Projects Coordinator for the Sierra Club Foundation of Canada – Atlantic Chapter.
