2017-02-15 - Parking Restrictions and Snow Clearing Notice

The City of Charlottetown's Public Works Department will be clearing and hauling snow tonight. Parking restrictions will be enforced throughout the City beginning at 11 p.m. Anyone parking on City streets between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. is taking a risk that they may be ticketed and/or towed.

The overnight winter parking restrictions prohibit parking from 1 a.m. until 6 a.m. daily, but the Traffic Bylaw also has provisions to assist in snow clearing operations. Section 10.12 of the Traffic Bylaw provides that:

"No person shall leave a vehicle standing or parked on a street;
(a)          so as to obstruct or hamper the removal or other disposition of snow on such street;
(c)           in a position that causes it to interfere with the normal flow of traffic in the street."

Like residents, the City of Charlottetown is dealing with considerable snow clearing operations. There has been significant snow fall over the past week and an additional winter storm warning is currently in effect, with an anticipated 25 centimetres of fresh snow into Thursday.

The City asks that motorists refrain from parking in areas where snow clearing has not occurred and be cognizant of traffic flows. Motorists are encouraged to carpool, use parkades, off street parking, or the T3 Transit bus system, especially when crews are dealing with the impact of winter storms.

If you have questions or would like additional information, please call our Winter Call Centre at: 902-629-6916.
