The City of Charlottetown Mayor and Council invite residents and visitors to the Mayor’s Annual BBQ to kick off Old Home Week.
The event will take place on the corner of Fitzroy Street and Great George Street (beside the ATC Centre) on Friday, August 11 from 11:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.
The Mayor and Councillors will be joined by City staff and Hot 105.5 and Ocean 100 personalities. The event will include free food, entertainment and a small petting zoo for children.
"We invite everyone to join us in the heart of downtown Charlottetown as we kick off one of the city’s most anticipated annual summer events," said Mayor Clifford Lee. "Old Home Week is a pinnacle tourism event that celebrates Island culture and history and we are pleased to once again host this festival in the birthplace of Confederation."
During the BBQ, Fitzroy Street will be closed to motorists from Great George Street (formerly University Avenue) to the Fitzroy Parkade. Motorists will still be able to access the parkade.
The annual BBQ is designed to help launch and show support for Old Home Week, which has a rich history in the city. Islanders and visitors have been enjoying the midway, livestock and agricultural shows and competitions since 1888. Old Home Week includes entertainment for the whole family and runs until August 19.
