The City of Charlottetown is pleased to announce the release of the much-anticipated book, Sixty Years of Charlottetown Baseball by Brian Lewis.

This project began in early 2000 to document what Brian Lewis knew about the history of baseball in the area. The late Brian Lewis had gathered and documented information about athletes and their achievements from 1931 to 1992. The book contains a detailed chronologic history and great photos, and was written by Brian Lewis, edited by Nancy Resnitsky and published by Retro Media.

Brian Lewis, originally from Alberton, signed a deal at the age of 15 with the Brooklyn Dodgers. He later turned to coaching midget and junior baseball and played a major role in assisting students to obtain baseball scholarships. Brian passed away on August 29, 2013 at age of 80.

"We are so excited to finally release this amazing book," said Mayor Clifford Lee. "Charlottetown has such a rich history in the sport of baseball and it is amazing to see all the information that Brian Lewis captured in one place."

In early 2012, the City formally took this project on to publish and finalize this long awaited book. All proceeds from sales will go to minor baseball through Baseball PEI.

"Charlottetown continues to support sporting activities and we are so pleased to have the proceeds going to Baseball PEI," said Deputy Mayor Stu MacFadyen. " This book would make an excellent gift for all the sports enthusiasts in your life."

Brian Lewis dedicated the book to the late Mitch MacLean and Tanner Craswell, who he had assisted with obtaining Baseball scholarships for institutions in the United States.

The retail price of the book is $24.95 and it is available at Baseball PEI’s office (40 Enman Crescent), as well as The Bookmark.
