Charlottetown Mayor Clifford Lee has accepted an invitation to raise awareness (and dollars) for the 2014 Relay For Life Dream Team on behalf of the PEI Division of the Canadian Cancer Society.
"We are delighted to have Mayor Lee as a member of the Dream Team this year," says Lori Barker, Executive Director of the Canadian Cancer Society, P.E.I. Division. "Whether it’s through family or friends, everyone has a story about how cancer affects them," says Barker. "Events like this one help create awareness and assist the Society to continue its essential work on the Island. It’s one way we can all have a hand in changing cancer forever."
Each member is tasked with raising $5,000. Money collected supports Islanders living with cancer through various programs such as emotional support programs, wigs, travel expenses, medical supplies and cancer screening. Mayor Lee notes that he is proud to be a member of a team to help fight a disease that affects two out of five people in PEI.
"My brother died of cancer in 2009, so I fall within the statistic that touches almost half of us," says Mayor Lee. "This opportunity to help raise money within the scope of the Dream Team is truly personal for me. I look forward to participating in various community and fundraising events to raise $5,000 for this worthy cause."
On Friday, May 9th, Mayor Lee will host a fundraising dinner at the Murphy Community Centre with entertainment provided by Bruce Rainnie, Kendra MacGillivray and Kevin ‘Boomer’ Gallant. There will also be a live auction item of a trip for two, including airfare and accommodation to the winner’s choice of location in either Banff, Alberta; Lake Louise, Alberta; or Yoho National Park, British Columbia.
The public is invited to purchase individual tickets ($75) or tables of 8 ($600) by contacting Kele Redmond at (902) 629-4000 or email@example.com in advance of the event. Special thanks to Air Canada and the Canadian Rocky Mountain Resorts for their generous donations to this fundraising event.
