The Charlottetown Water and Sewer Utility Department’s Toilet Rebate Program and Clothes Washing Machine Rebate Program has ended for 2014 as budgeted funds have been exhausted for the year.
The program provided rebates to Charlottetown Water and Sewer Utility customers who replaced existing inefficient toilets and clothes washing machines with a high-efficiency models. Since launching the program in May 2011, over 730 low-flow toilets have been replaced. The washing machine rebate program began in February 2014 with a total of 36 clothes washing machine rebates issued. The total water savings of these two programs is estimated to have saved 22.8 million litres of water per year.
Rebate programs have significant importance in the water conservation program as a support to the community and as an incentive to participants.
