The eastlink Centre Charlottetown is hosting the National Basketball League Canada All-Star Weekend this Easter weekend, April 19 and 20th. This premiere event brings the league’s all-stars for the first time ever to the City of Charlottetown.
"We are pleased to have the National Basketball League Canada select Charlottetown to host this upcoming All-Star weekend," says Mayor Clifford Lee. "The ability of the City to attract a premiere event such as this provides for fun, family entertainment at a high level of professional sport that may entice our youth in their own pursuit of sport. I applaud all efforts of the Island Storm to pursue and host such a great community event like this."
Saturday, NBL Canada players will lead basketball clinics, participate in a university invitational challenge, showcase a 3-point shootout and compete in the NBL Canada Slam Dunk Contest. The day also includes an awards banquet and reception that recognizes the league’s season and playoff award winners at Red Shores.
On Sunday, the signature event of the weekend, the All-Star Game, showcases the talents of the league's ‘best of the best’ beginning at 2:00 p.m. at the eastlink Centre Charlottetown. Prior to the game, the league presents an NBL All-Star co-ed high school skills competition.
Canadian musician Karl Wolf (3-time Juno award nominee and 3-time SOCAN Anglophone Song of the Year performer) and addition to Juno award winning Canadian rapper, Choclair, will perform throughout the weekend’s events.
The weekend is presented in partnership with the City of Charlottetown and the Special Events Reserve Fund (SERF), the Island STORM, the Province of PEI, the Confederation Bridge, and PEI 2014 Inc. The weekend’s activities are expected to stimulate strong economic and tourism spinoffs.
