Charlottetown Waterfront

The City of Charlottetown, with the expert assistance of The Planning Partnership, is currently undertaking a review of the Official Plan and Zoning & Development Bylaw. In an effort to reflect the neighbourhood aspirations and to provide guidance for amendments to the Official Plan and the future development of the City, "visioning" exercises have been held with residents and interested parties of different areas of the City. 500 Lot Area (and Waterfront)

Waterfront

The City of Charlottetown engaged in a broad scale master planning process for the Waterfront. Subsequent to of a number of public consultation events and months of research, the Master Plan was presented to City Council and members of the public at the end of 2012. Following the receipt of the Waterfront Master Plan, amendments to the Official Plan and Zoning & Development Bylaw were drafted to reflect the goals and policies of the plan. These amendments were presented to the public in February, 2013, and have since been approved by Council and were formally adopted on May 29, 2013.

500 Lot Area

Commencing in the Fall of 2010, the City of Charlottetown retained The Planning Partnership (TPP) to prepare new Development Standards and Design Guidelines for the 500 Lot Area, which encompasses much of the City's historic, cultural, civic and symbolic core.

The input gathered, along with best practice research and a review of existing plans and policies, formed the foundation for the resulting Official Plan and Bylaw amendment proposals. These amendments were presented to the public in March, 2013, and have since been approved by Council and were formally adopted on September 11, 2013.

Following the workshop, The Planning Partnership worked in consultation with City staff, traffic engineers and stakeholders in the area on preparing a draft Structure Plan for the area and on proposed amendments to the Official Plan. A public meeting was held on May 21, 2013 to receive feedback on the draft Plans for the East Royalty Neighbourhood. The Planning Department would like to thank everyone who took the time to consider the amendments through attendance at the public meeting and comment submissions.

A follow-up meeting on February 4, 2014 presented the final draft of the East Royalty Master Plan. This document is the result of a plan process that began almost a year ago. The Planning Partnership, a consulting firm from Ontario was commissioned to prepare the Master Plan. Over the past year they have conducted public visioning workshops and have worked in consultation with City staff, the public, stakeholders, Provincial Government representatives and traffic engineers to produce the final document. This final document will identify a vision for the East Royalty area and provide a clear direction for future growth and how development will proceed in this area of the City.

A Traffic Impact Report has recently been released which evaluates the East Royalty and St. Peter's Road neighbourhoods.
